A graduate of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Reverend Sean Rousseau earned his masters of divinity with a concentration in systematic theology. Rev. Sean K. Rousseau currently serves the communities of Haymarket and Gainesville, Virginia, as the priest-in-charge at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Through St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Father Rousseau is involved with the diocesan-wide initiative Dayspring.
Dedicated to returning Episcopal properties to the diocese of Virginia, Dayspring was established in 2012 by Bishop Shannon Johnston. Whether the properties are funds, pieces of land, buildings, or houses, Dayspring helps identify the best use for ministry resources. Additionally, Dayspring leaders work together to determine the best way to utilize the recovered property to serve the needs of Episcopalian congregations.
For example, seven properties and a number of other buildings and land parcels were returned to the diocese at the end of a five-year legal dispute in 2012. Congregations doubled in size when they were able to move back into the larger returned properties that were more able to accommodate a larger amount of people. As a result of the congregation’s increased numbers, staffing infrastructure needed to adapt, which was enabled through Dayspring.
